Morsegram for Android (package it.morsegram.app)
Effective 21 October 2026 · last updated 21 October 2026

Summary

  • Morsegram collects no personal data. The developer operates no servers and receives no information from the app.
  • No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no profiling, no advertising identifiers.
  • Morsegram is an unofficial Telegram client: your messages and account data are processed by Telegram FZ-LLC under its own privacy policy, exactly as with the official app.
  • Settings, local pins, hidden chats and transcriptions stay on your device.
  • Google only receives what is needed to deliver push notifications (Firebase), and you can turn that off.

1. Data controller

The data controller for the Morsegram application is Antonino Miccio (IOTATEC), the developer of the app, reachable at info@iotatec.it.

As explained below, the developer does not collect or store any personal data about users of the app: messaging content is processed independently by Telegram FZ-LLC, which acts as its own controller.

2. What Morsegram is

Morsegram is an unofficial Android client for the Telegram messaging service, derived from Telegram's official open-source application and distributed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later. It is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Telegram FZ-LLC.

Using Morsegram requires signing in with a Telegram account. Everything related to that account and your messages — phone number, profile, chats, exchanged content, synced contacts, list of linked devices — travels to and is stored on Telegram's servers, not on Morsegram servers, which do not exist. That processing is governed by Telegram's privacy policy: telegram.org/privacy.

In practice: compared with the official Telegram app, Morsegram adds no data collection whatsoever. If anything it removes some: several official features that generate server traffic (stories, gifts, Stars, wallet, AI features) are not even loaded.

3. Data collected by the developer

None. Morsegram contains no mechanism that sends data to the developer. Specifically, the app contains no:

Any diagnostic messages the app may write remain in the device's local log (logcat) and are never transmitted to anyone.

The developer does not sell, rent or share personal data with third parties, simply because none is ever received.

4. Data kept on your device

Some features added by Morsegram store information in the app's private storage. This data never leaves your device, is not accessible to other apps, and is removed when you uninstall Morsegram.

DataPurpose
App preferencesMorsegram settings (in-app airplane mode, transcription options, theme, language).
Local pin listIdentifiers of chats you pinned beyond the server limit.
Hidden chat listIdentifiers of the chats you chose to hide.
Hidden chats PINStored only as a salted cryptographic hash (PBKDF2): the PIN itself is never stored or transmitted.
Voice transcriptionsThe resulting text is saved in the local message database, as the official app does.
Temporary transcription filesDecoded audio in a private cache folder, deleted when the job finishes, fails or is cancelled.
Telegram account dataChat, media and contact caches handled by Telegram's own code, as in the official app.

Biometric data used to unlock hidden chats (fingerprint or face) is not accessible to the app: verification is performed entirely by the Android system, which reports only success or failure to Morsegram.

5. Third-party services

Telegram FZ-LLC

The messaging service the app connects to, and the independent controller of your account and conversation data. Policy: telegram.org/privacy.

Google — Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications)

To alert you to new messages while the app is closed, Morsegram uses Google's push notification service. Your device receives a registration identifier (push token) from Google that is required for delivery; that token is provided to Telegram's servers, which use it to send the notification. Telegram push notifications do not contain the text of secret chats, and for chats you have hidden Morsegram locally strips the sender and the content before displaying them.

You can do without Google entirely: under Settings → Notifications, enabling the background connection delivers messages straight from Telegram's servers without going through the push service.

Google — Play Services

Some features inherited from the official Telegram app rely on Google services present on the device, and only if you use them:

Morsegram contains no in-app purchases and does not use SafetyNet or device attestation. Google's data practices: policies.google.com/privacy.

6. Permissions

Morsegram declares the same permissions as the official Telegram app, because it inherits all of its features. Android asks for them only when you actually use the matching feature, and you can deny or revoke them at any time in your phone's settings.

7. Features that deserve an explanation

Voice message transcription

Morsegram turns voice messages into text using Android's offline speech recognition, on the device. The audio is not sent to any developer server or third-party service, and the microphone is never activated: only the audio file of the message you already received is processed. Temporary files created during processing are deleted afterwards.

Two exceptions, stated so you can decide for yourself:

Hidden chats

Chats you hide disappear from the chat list, from search and from share menus, and their notifications are shown without sender or text. This is a local, visual privacy feature: the chats still exist normally on Telegram's servers and remain visible from your other devices and from the official app. The PIN is stored only as a salted hash and cannot be recovered: if you forget it, the developer has no way to unlock it.

In-app airplane mode and local pins

Both work entirely on the device. In-app airplane mode suspends only this app's connection; local pins are simply an ordering saved locally. Neither transmits any data.

Automatic updates (website version only)

The version distributed outside the store can look for a newer release inside a Telegram chat you choose (your Saved Messages by default), downloading it through the connection already open with Telegram: no external server is contacted and no information is disclosed to third parties. Before installing any file, the app verifies its digital signature, package name and version number.

This feature is not included in the Google Play version, as required by store policy: updates come exclusively from Google Play.

8. Children

Morsegram is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from minors. Use of the Telegram service is subject to the age limits set out in Telegram's terms of service. Since the app collects no data at all, no processing of children's data takes place on the developer's side.

9. Your rights

Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) grants you the right to access your personal data, rectify it, erase it, restrict or object to its processing, and obtain its portability.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your competent supervisory authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).

10. Security

Communication with Telegram uses the official app's encryption, whose code has not been modified. Secret chats remain end-to-end encrypted exactly as in the official app. Data saved on your device resides in the app's private storage area, protected by Android.

Morsegram's source code is public and auditable: anyone can verify that what is stated here matches the software. github.com/tonym961/Morsegram.app

11. Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the effective date at the top will change. Previous versions remain available in the site's public history.
